Resources

I’m creating a collection of stuff I’ve done and found. Hopefully it will be useful to other people, but please credit me if you use anything. I’m not going to put a system that captures people’s details here, but if you do find something useful it would be great to hear from you by email.

Presentations etc..

PDF file of 2023 CMBBE presentation “DEFINING A PROCESS FOR STRESS REDUCTION IN THE KEEL TRAY INTERFACE IN UNICOMPARTMENTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT TIBIAL COMPONENTS

PDF file of IMECHE Simulation & Modelling 2023 presentation ” A Parametric Model of the Human Knee for reduced simulation timescales”

Dyna Tutorials

I wrote these tutorials for LS Dyna and Primer whilst helping out on the Brookes Impact Course.

“CFD Fast Start” course materials

This is the presentation and tutorial for my CFD Fast Start course. This is based on CCM+ but is probably useful if you run other codes. Here you can download PDF files of the presentation and tutorial. As usual the fact that WordPress won’t allow STP files on their download feature, you’ll have to email me if you want the geometry files.

Introduction to Finite Elements

These notes are the ones I use for my intro courses. If you want to use them in any course you are delivering, or in any presentation, I will give you permission. But you have to email me and ask.. otherwise you haven’t got my permission to use them. The copyright will always be mine.

FSI Testing notes

These notes cover a study I did on mesh adaptivity in Abaqus CEL. Definitely a work in progress.

FEMAP Tutorials and Info

At Brookes I’ve been helping out on the Composites/Impact module, and we’ve started to use FEMAP for Pre and Post for LS Dyna. I wrote this tutorial to get my head around FEMAP again after a long lay off. It uses the integrated Nastran solver, rather than Dyna. Still at Draft because I’m the only person who has tried it so far.

Basic Tutorial

Mesh association

Some notes on how to associate orphan meshes to geometry.

Creating an envelope plot

It is often useful to create plots which tell you the peak stress than an element see’s during an event.

Notes on CAD models for simulation projects

Students seem surprised that simply downloading a model from the internet isn’t optimal in terms of a simulation model development strategy. I’ve encountered this so often that I’ve written some notes on the subject.

Materials

I’ve noticed that the different colours of PLA material for 3D printing have noticeably different mechanical properties. This paper has the data.

FreeCAD/Calculix Tutorial

I did this tutorial for the FreeCAD/Calculix combination. If you want the stp file of the geometry email me and I’ll send it. WordPress doesn’t support adding STP files to a website.

PreProMax

PreProMax is a really good FEA system that is available for free download. The solver is Calculix.

Here is a link to the website:

OpenRadioss

I’ve been using Openradioss recently for a course I’m writing. All the downloadable stuff is here.

My notes on getting this to work on Windows are downloadable here.

Shapr3D

I use both SolidEdge and Shapr3D. Test link suspended for now.
